“If inspiration is the breath of heaven, then the critic who sits on your shoulder and whispers discouraging words into your ear is its opposite. Inspiration comes from God, and the voice that tells us that what we are doing is not any good (will never sell, will never get published, is trivial, is lousy, is keeping us from our real responsibilities) comes right out of the pits of hell.” ~Janice Elsheimer, The Creative Call
Over the years I’ve plowed through my own field of self-doubt, not to mention some rather obsessive-compulsive editing {wink}. I still love the revision process. Sick, isn’t it?
At some point we have to let it go, trusting we’ve done our best for the time being. Give your labor of love to Him and watch it blossom.
God is building the writer in you.

No, not sick! I love revision. It is coming up with the inspiration in the first place that’s tricky.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with liking to edit (says the newspaper copy editor in me).

Obsessive, compulsive editing….OH MY! Sometimes I don’t recognize my “writing” after I obsess over the editing process.
A few days ago, while editing a devotion I had written, for what was probably the umpteenth time…..I felt like the Lord was saying, “Was THAT what I spoke to you?” I don’t guess even HE recognized it!!! :o)
Editing is great, and obviously a MUST….but I have to be watchful that I don’t lose myself and end up writing like someone else. I know it is a sign of my insecurity! God gave us our unique gift and wants us to be who we are.
Thanks for the reminder! :o)
