“The beautiful part of writing is that you don’t have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon.” ~Robert Cormier
When I start to take myself too seriously about writing, this quote manages to crack me up.
Happy New Year, ya’ll. Aren’t you glad we don’t have to get it right the first time? I love editing.

“Far away, there in the sunshine, are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.”
~ Louisa May Alcott
Ah, but His Word, my daily Sonshine, is not so far away. And He will perfect all that concerns me - in 2008, and beyond.
God bless my writerly friends! Christ is our daily source of strength, creativity, and profound joy.

“When we allow God the privilege of shaping our lives, we discover new depths of purpose and meaning. What a joyful thought to realize you are a chosen vessel for God—-perfectly suited for his use.” ~ Joni Eareckson Tada

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful; for beauty is God’s handwriting…Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower, and thank God for it as a cup of blessing.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“As God loveth a cheerful giver, so he also loveth a cheerful taker, who takes hold on his gifts with a glad heart.” ~ John Donne
Taking time this week to reflect, pray, and ponder His ways. Hope your Christmas was filled with all the things that bring you joy - but especially the awesome love of our Savior.

“Our service to others can be about our own unmet need for attention, approval, and maybe even affection, and our message to them can be about ourselves. But the heart of Christ in us transforms our ministry to be about others and our message to be about him.” ~ Don Whisnant

“When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings with toys at Christmastime. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs?”
~ G. K. Chesterton

What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can, I give him — I give him my heart.
~ In the Bleak Midwinter ~

To expect more than we receive at Christmas leads to the snare of disappointment. But not if we harken back to the blessings of God, promised and fulfilled in Christ our Lord, the good Giver of gifts:
* Healing from our broken lives…
* Forgiveness of sin repented…
* Abundant mercy and grace…
His blessings are too numerous to list, but when we look to the Him instead of everyone else, we find Him Faithful and True. “Love came down at Christmas-time…” Let’s rejoice in His great big love for us!

“A quiet heart, resting in the love of God, dwelling in perfect peace, hath a royalty about it which cannot for a moment be matched by the fleeting joys of this world.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
