Another Semi-Precious Day

“A creative mess is better than tidy idleness.”

Atlanta’s flooding rains beat hard on the Gaines cottage this week but, thankfully, we only suffered a little wet carpet.

Meanwhile, I’m sorting and organizing my stash of beads and “findings” – sweet treasure from the Bead Show. God provides us so much beauty in this world; I’m only beginning to discover it!

Drawn to the world of semi-precious stones, I’ve added to my collection some luscious pink agate, cool aqua amazonite, dark green adventurine, and a bit of unikite – pretty coral and olive-colored beads. Apparently, it pays to visit the last hour of the day for such finds. A vendor, eager to pack his supplies, offered reduced prices on the most gorgeous rondelle-shaped crystals. My eyes popped while bracelets danced in my head!

So I’ve a lot on my mind this week, praying for Atlanta, organizing my bead studio, looking for an Etsy/Artfire banner design, catching up the blogs, and preparing to launch this home business. Also, Mr. G. returns soon for his first PSA test since prostate cancer surgery. Praying he’ll be well because it was a long, hard summer. Once things seem a little more settled I’ll resume work on my book.

Tell me, what creative outlets stir your heart besides writing?

Sewing…Love it…wish I had time to do more of it, but I especially love Heirloom sewing, soft batiste, sheer lawn and gentle Dotted Swiss. Silks are a favorite. I enjoy sewing children’s clothes so much more than sewing for myself. Silk Ribbons woven through entredeau, brings me much happiness.
I have a passion for yardage (I do mean yardage) of un-cut amazing fabrics. Hearing Silk Crepe shoosh as it cascades out as I just shake it out to touch it and dream about the red dress for Christmas or the royal purple dress just because I could make it if I wanted but hate to put scissors to the buttery texture.
That is a favorite creative pass time for me.
My sewing room is all packed up right now because we are in the middle of scaling down to a smaller home. It is after all just my beloved Dale and me and our wee dog. so this huge rambling heritage home that we raised our family in is just too large now, so our youngest son is buying it from us and we are purchasing a lovely home on the Bayside of our town Summerside we have a lovely view of the gates to the ocean from our new home.
My new sewing room and writing spcae will be looking out over the water, with windows galore to glace out of or sit and day dream for a spell looking at the ever changing water.
I hope your weekend is special Victoria and your Mr. G. gets a clean bill of health.

  2. I love to work in my shop and create different embroidery and maybe a little pillow…… I spent all weekend cleaning the shop as I had let it go for weeks. I take refuge there some days when the stress is just too much…….

Weather here has cooled off and I guess that fall has arrived…….. I have missed so much in the blog world but wanted to stop by and say hello….. Praying for Mr G……..

I love to play with everything. Painting. Decorating. And Photography. If I could, I would make floral arrangements all the time. But where would I put them all? selahV
