Right now moving!!!!30 years in the generational homestead…now our son and his small but growing family have taken it over and my groom of 33 years and I went house hunting this summer. It was time to downsize, but only one or two homes appealed to us and the one we chose still has lots of room for us and our grandbabies to come and go in, but to many is still a large home. (It is 2/3 the size of what we lived in.) But is downsizing I have lost my sewing and writing room…so this week we moved in sort of. Much of our life is still in the homestead waiting for my husband to be done with getting our crop under cover. It has been a brutal fall weather wise, our ground has received 1/3 for it’s normal annual rain fall in the month of October alone and we are digging in soupy ground 100 acres of 1500 left to go and we may resign ourselves to the fact it could be lost this year, we have never dug a crop in November before, up here the frost has come early.

So moving and un-packing and continuing to throw out even as I un=pack what I thought we had seriously purged before we packed…..Oh how I want to just be able to sit and watch the Canadian Geese take off from the harbor so close to our new home, but as I sort through boxes and lay out beloved dishes in new cabinet with my patio door ajar, I heard them and if I am lucky I can catch a glimpse of the majestic birds and they rise together one huge body of birds and turn their trip southward.

I hope to have my new old creative space set up with a view over the water by the end of next week. But until then I shall continue to un-pack and sort with an eye to the computer and hoped for word to flow, or even to sew, either would be wonderful right now.

What preparations will you be doing for your up-coming Thanksgiving celebrations this year?
    Canadian have it in October.

Thanks for a post that compelled me to sit and let my mind wander for a few minutes. Good night.

Hi Iris! Ah, so you’ll be unpacking for awhile - enjoy setting up your new creative space. I’m envious of your view over the water! How wonderful! Isn’t it funny how much we still have to pack & unpack, even after “purging”? I’m still going through my shelves and closet to rid myself of unneeded clutter but it’s always been hard for me to let go. I start going down memory lane - each memento takes me back in time somewhere. I’ll be praying for you as you get settled! We’re definitely looking forward to Thanksgiving here soon - already daydreaming about pumpkin spice aromas wafting from the kitchen while hubby keeps watch over the turkeys (we cook two!). Cleaning and pulling out old favorite recipes:-) Keep in touch!

If I had a choice to re-live any day over from the last month it would be our Thanks Giving…Our oldest son Micah was born on our Thanks Giving Monday 31 years ago, and this year he was actually home from his ministry work for our thanksgiving celebration and his birthday…but we are in total confusion with packing and purging.
Perhaps a lovely idea would to be re-do Thanks Giving on your(American) day for it. My dear mother-in-law of near 80 loves to still cook the whole turkey meal. Everything is from scratch. I contribute an assorment of salads saved for such occassions as this, but the dear soul made 9 pies all from scratch. A huge turkey, stuffing and a pot of potatoes that she couldn’t lift, but she was a happy lady getting everyone tucked under her table; we barely could taste the food for the pressure we felt we were under and our usual mind set of gratitude was skimpy at best that day. Our son’s birthday was lost in all of the confussion, of packing and moving things into storage..so I may seriously think about re-doing Thanks Giving and letting the wonderful smells and feelings of that day be properly visited, and make sure we allow ourselves time to celebrate our precious son’s birthday.
Something for me to ponder and perhaps put into action. What better way to have our new home used than in a Gratitude dinner.
Thank you for reminding me that one of the most important days of North American celebration was lost in the fray of our situation at that time….Have a blessed day.
